Full-time position for research and development engineer to work on increasing functionality and reliability of hardware systems for superconducting particle accelerators. These include high voltage, cryogenic, vacuum, and high-power radiofrequency systems that support high-power electron beams for isotope production.

Job Duties:

-Commission and operate particle accelerators for R&D and production

-Document commissioning results and operation work

-Work with accelerator physicists in understanding and improving performance

-Assist, physicists,  engineers, manufacturing and assembly groups in the construction of new accelerator installations

Description: Full-time position for accelerator operator to operate superconducting particle accelerators and associated hardware. This job will involve completing a wide-ranging training program in the support and controls systems for running a high-power electron beam for isotope production. Operators keep systems running and also collaborate with engineers and physicists develop and test new hardware systems.

Job Duties:

Electrical Engineer

Description: Full-time position for an electrical engineer to design, build, test, and manage support and diagnostics systems for superconducting particle accelerators. High-power radio frequency systems for superconducting particle accelerators involve slow and fast controls, beam diagnostics, and high-power microwave engineering with an emphasis on robust designs that can operate long-term in a challenging production environment.

Job Duties:

-Take responsibility for study, design, development, testing, commissioning, and upgrading of Niowave’s systems for present and future accelerators

-Manage staff performing electrical work throughout the company

-Coordinate work with controls engineers

-Contribute to the operation of particle accelerators and peripheral equipment/technology

-Conduct optimization work on existing systems, perform measurements and validation tests

-Confirm system capabilities by designing testing methods

-Establish operational procedures and safety documentation

-Carry out analog circuit simulations as well as numerical field calculations to produce engineering specifications for system upgrades and future systems

-Interfacing electronics with system controls

Required skills:

-Demonstrated experience in analog circuit simulations and design of power electronics and resonant circuits

-Experience in carrying out measurements using various test equipment

-Initial experience in finite element computation for electromagnetic fields

-Analysis and modelling in power electronics and microwave circuits

Health Physicist

Description: The ideal candidate will provide a combination of radiation safety and license compliance support while conducting hands on isotope production experiments by fully integrating themselves into Niowave’s isotope production program. You will be working side by side with a team of radiochemists, physicists, and engineers to produce, extract, and characterize radioisotopes. The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the knowledge and ability to clearly communicate risk and regulatory compliance to a diverse group of employees.

Job Duties Include:

· Target fabrication, irradiation, and isotope extraction

· Handling of sealed and unsealed radioactive sources

· Radiological contamination surveys

· α and γ spectroscopy and analysis

Desired Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Health Physics or related field

· Hands on experience performing laboratory research and physical experimentation

· Knowledge of radiation interactions with matter, radiation dosimetry, and spectroscopy

· Able to detect, identify, and quantify unknown sources of ionizing radiation

· Familiarity with best practices for chemical hygiene and radiochemical hazards

· Understanding of NRC regulations as well as State of Michigan (or similar) rules for machine produced radiation

Mechanical Engineer

Position: Mechanical Engineer

Job Duties Include:

· Work with designers and applications engineers to generate 3D model and prints for various accelerator and radioisotope R&D and production systems

· Work with technicians on assembly, alignment, and testing

· Design and implement gas handling and ventilation systems

· Build and test prototype systems

· Create piping and instrumentation diagrams

· Select equipment for fast paced R&D as well as long-term production.

Required Qualifications:

· BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.

· Knowledge of CAD design fundamentals and past work with design (Solidworks preferred).

· Knowledge of fluid dynamics (compressible and incompressible) and of heat transfer in water, gases, etc. and of thermodynamics.

· Experience with general shop fabrication and assembly and experience interfacing with shop personnel.

Desired Qualifications:

· Knowledge of equipment including pumps, heat exchangers, and Swagelok fittings is highly desirable.

· Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.

· Experience working with cryogenic fluids.

Description: This position will work on aspects of designing, implementing, and operating irradiation systems in Niowave’s isotope production program including nuclear reactor design, simulations, and experimentation.

Job Duties Include:

· Participate in irradiation experiments and post-irradiation examination of uranium or radium targets.

· Data analysis and documentation of irradiation experiments.

· Neutronics and/or mechanical design of uranium target assembly and relevant monitoring and operational sub-systems.

· Water and liquid metal thermal-hydraulics.

Desired Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or related fields.

· Hands on experience performing laboratory research and physical experimentation.

· Knowledge of fundamental concepts in nuclear engineering including: neutronics, radiation detection methods, radiation interactions with matter, and thermal-hydraulics.

· Familiarity with research reactor neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, monitoring and controls, or auxiliary systems.

· Experience with reactor benchmarking or measurement experiments.

· Experience with common spectroscopy setups (alpha, beta, gamma, neutron) and ability to detect, identify, and quantify radioactive materials.

Identifying and developing new processes and technologies needed to bring isotopes to market

· Optimizing and upgrading existing processes to increase efficiency, capability, and reliability of isotope production

· Responsibilities will span the entire development cycle from idea generation through commercialization

· Transferring processes and technologies from the laboratory/bench/pilot scale into full production

· Gathering and analyzing data in a timely manner to advance project development

· Compiling data and preparing documents and summaries for both technical and non-technical audiences
